Job Description

Job Summary: This position will provide project participants with postsecondary planning services. Upward Bound is a federally funded program and continued funding is contingent upon a competitive application process. This position is governed by state and federal laws and institution policy. Occasional travel is required to attend professional conferences, trainings, and student-related events. This position will also require work on Saturdays during the program’s Saturday Academy sessions.

Salary: Annual salary range of $30,000-$32,500 to commensurate with education and experience. Plus, excellent benefit package.

Supervisory Responsibilities: N/A

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for administering, scoring, and interpreting personality and career assessment inventories, financial literacy educational programs, planning/implementing programs for career identification; and utilizing educational technology, preferably in a TRIO program
  • Assists with identifying and actively recruiting 63 eligible high school students to participate in the program on an annual basis
  • Coordinates applicant/parent interviews for participant selection
  • Utilizes a case management approach to assess, provide direct services, and monitor assigned participants
  • Provides assistance to students and parents with completion of the FAFSA, scholarship applications, etc.
  • Assists with the supervision of participants on field trips, events, and during meeting times on campus
  • Maintains the UB website
  • Publishes the UB newsletter
  • Conducts participant and staff technology training
  • Coordinates career workshops and the volunteer mentoring program
  • Prepare and maintain accurate project records
  • Compile and analyze data for reports and evaluation
  • Assist the Director with project evaluation and federal recordkeeping
  • Conducts outreach and follow-up on former participants
  • Complete required mandatory Safe Colleges related to working with minors
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of postsecondary education and financial assistance programs is mandatory.
  • Knowledge of academic, personal/social and career advisement.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Job Requirements

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, student support, or a related field.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in secondary or postsecondary working with disadvantaged, low-income and first-generation students.

Preferred Education and Experience: Master’s degree preferred, preferably in School Administration, Education, Guidance and Counseling, Curriculum, Instruction, or a related field.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 20 pounds.
  • Frequent standing and walking.
  • Must have valid driver’s license.
